Annual Awards
National Toastmasters has a series of awards which it presents to members at club meetings or at the annual awards meeting held in July each year. The awards are explained below.
Toastmaster Of The Year
The Toastmaster of the Year Award is an honour bestowed upon the club member for outstanding efforts in Toastmasters. For each of the activities listed below club members receive points. These points are recorded on the Toastmaster Of The Year form (download the form in MS Word format). The completed form is then handed in during May and the winner is announced during the awards night dinner, held in June. [See past winners]
Les Cornell Trophy
The Les Cornell Award was presented to the Club in 1983 by Club Patron Les Cornell (1982-84) to provide recognition of achievement in the framework of the regular club meeting. It is based on a point system awarded based on winning the voted awards at regular meetings. Points are awarded as follows:
- Best Speaker (Buddha) 5 points
- Best Evaluator (Tiki) 4 points
- Best Table Topic (Bull) 3 points
- Best Other Assignment (Penguin) 3 points
Where there are multiple winners, e.g. 2 best speakers at a regular meeting, both earn full points. The Vice President Membership tabulates results.
Bruce Robertson Trophy For Most Improved Speaker
In June the Vice President Membership conducts a secret ballot for this award, which includes a perpetual trophy presented in 1984 by Club Member Bruce Robertson.
All members who have completed 2 or more manual speeches that calender year are eligible. Voting is conducted on a 3-2-1 basis, with the award being presented to the highest point scorer.
Best Chairman
In June the Vice President Membership conducts a secret ballot for Best Chairman. All members who have been chairman once since the previous 1st July are eligible. Voting is conducted on a 3-2-1 basis, with the award being presented to the highest point scorer.
Best Evaluator
In June the Vice President Membership conducts a secret ballot for this award. All members who have given two or more evaluations including Table Topics are eligible. Voting is conducted on a 3-2-1 basis, with the award being presented to the highest point scorer.
Best Attendance
The Vice President Membership tabulates the best attendance at regular club meetings.
